Flaccadori to EH: "Playing in the US? Not yet"

At 6-4 Diego Flaccadori ('96) from Bluorobica Bergamo is without any doubt the most talented playmaker in Italy: very accurate passages, delicious ball handling skills and a good propensity to score. This season he played good season with both U17 and U19 of Bergamo and we had a fast talk with him about the next future.

What do you think of the season that just ended, where you have been in the spotlight with both the U17 and the U19 of the Bluorobica Bergamo?
- It's been a developing act for me on an individual point of view, with the U19 we had the satisfaction of getting to the National Finals in Udine, even if we got knocked out at the Quarters by Virtus Bologna, the current italian U19 champion team. As long as the U17, it was a weird season, where we managed to win the most prestigious yearly tournament, the Malaguti , but unfortunately we didnt qualify to enter the U17 National Finals in Civitanova. -

From the 13th to the 20th of June you will be part of Italy's U18 National Team that will face Slovenia, Croatia, and Turkey at Potenza from the 21st to the 23rd. What are your expectations after last year's U16 European Championship? What type of team is the Italy's U18 team gonna be?
- After the great experience of last year I realized how important it is to play in your nation's national team, I would really like to play in this U18 European Championship while being one of the youngest players and I'm sure that this will help my growth. The U18 National team this year will be a very physical team and with a lot of talented players, in the previous training sessions I observed a very high level, we will surely have some satisfactions this summer.

Who is the best italian player that you have ever played against? And the foreign one?
- Recently in the U19 Finals I played against Matteo Imbro from Virtus Bologna, a very skilled playmaker that I really like to watch play. For the foreign one I choose the last summer the MVP of the U16 European Championship Okben Ulubay.

A lot of young european players are going to play in the United States and completing their studies in a Prep. School and then making the big leap in the NCAA. What do you think is influencing this choice? Did you ever consider the possibility of continuing your basketball career as soon as possible in the US?
- I think that playing in the US is everybody's dream because you start to train at the highest levels since you are young there, and basketball is a very high regarded sport. I think that the athletes choice to continue their career in the US makes them able to have a more round experience that will benefit them in the present and the future. Personally I have been presented the opportunity of moving on the other side of the ocean but I regard it as a premature possibility in this moment.
